MARTEN CHANGES AS AGREED UPON AT ARBA CONVENTION IN DEL MAR CALIFORNIA.

Marten American Cavy-To be entered and shown under Judging the American #19 TAN PATTERN GROUP.

Marten-Beige, Black, Blue, Chocolate and Lilac.

MARTEN-Top color is to be Beige, Black, Blue, Chocolate or Lilac.  Marten markings around the eyes, pea spots, inside ears, nostrils, jowls, shoulders, inside of feet/legs, chest, and belly.  Flanks are to be evenly and thickly laced with white tipped hairs.

TOP COLOR:

BEIGE –Color is to be light brown, rich and even, carried to the base of the skin, with ears and feet to match.  Allow darker shading in juniors.  Eyes-Pink.

BLACK-Color to be a deep, rich black, carried to the skin; ears and footpads to match.  Eyes-Dark.

BLUE -Color is to be a deep gray, with even slate cast, carried to the skin; ears and footpads to match.  Eyes-Dark, with a ruby cast.

CHOCOLATE-Color is to be a deep, rich chocolate, carried to the skin; ears and footpads to match.  Eyes-dark, with or without a ruby cast.

LILAC-Color is to be a light gray, with an even purple cast, carried to the skin; ears and footpads to match. Allow darker shading in juniors.  Eyes-Pink.

MARTEN MARKINGS:  To consist of white tipped hairs.  Medium tip color length, with minimal undercolor.  Undercolor is to match the top color.  Marking color to be white.

Points 10-Belly markings are to be as wide as possible, clear and free of muddiness. The presence of undercolor is desirable. Belly color should be visible from the sides of the posed cavy.  Chest markings are to be full, clear, and high.

Points  5-Line of demarcation on sides and throat are to be high, clear and distinct.

Points  5-Eye circles are to be well defined and prominent around entire eye.

Points  3-Nostril/mouth should be prominently outlined.  Jowl markings should be clear, wide, and long, following the jaw line.

Points  3-Shoulder markings are the be a bold tapered line, beginning at the top of the chest, continuing over each shoulder and up the sides.

Points  3-Feet/legs, on the inside of each, should show white, with the top color an the outside.  Toenails are to match the top color.

Points  3-Pea spots are to be prominent.

Points  3-Sides should be evenly laced with white tipped hairs, extending well up the sides.  The lacing of the white tipped hairs serves to enhance the white marking

FAULTS:  White on nostrils, extending up to the eye circle-giving a mealy appearance.  Stray white hairs in top color-not to be confused with desirable side lacing.

Faded areas on pads of feet.

DISQUALIFICATION FROM COMPETITION:  Patches of foreign color including White in top color-not to be confused  with white tipped lacing on flanks.  Very muddy belly or lack of white on bellyFlesh spots on foot-pads or ears on Black, Chocolate, and Blue. White toenails.
